Combining alpine farming and bike trails:
La Tsenelle, Verbier

The “La Tsenelle” flow trail in Verbier sets standards for coexistence between mountain biking and alpine farming. The 1.7 km mountain bike trail is suitable for children and beginners as well as experienced riders, and fits into an exceptional landscape with breathtaking views.

Planned in 2019 and opened in 2022, the Tsenelle flow trail in Verbier is a model for harmonious coexistence between mountain bike trails and alpine farming. Designed for children and beginners, the flow trail also offers varied riding fun for advanced riders. It stretches for 1.7 kilometers through exceptional scenery with breathtaking views.

During planning, which took account of various constraints (protected areas, wetlands, irrigation channels, and ski slopes), particular attention was paid to the needs of La Chaux alpine farm and its livestock. Livestock routes and watering points were carefully analyzed to determine the measures needed and minimize potential disturbance.

Taking soil conditions and topography into account, our experts then planned the best possible alignment and the necessary measures, documenting everything in a detailed technical report. The experienced Bikepark Verbier team subsequently used this as the basis for construction and the required adaptations.

Several playful and distinctive features were incorporated into the trail. Rest areas with benches and tables are also provided. Some feature information boards explaining the characteristics of the areas riders pass through. The alpine farm’s products and activities are also highlighted, and there is even information about the “Itres,” the remains of shepherds’ huts. According to the bike park team, having cows and goats near the trail is also a real tourism asset.

Following its opening in 2022, with over 32’000 rides in just two months, the Tsenelle flow trail can certainly be called a success!
