Project description
Mountain biking as a central part of the destination
Starting point
Schladming-Dachstein is an established alpine tourism region seeking to develop strategically in response to climate change and changing visitor needs. Mountain biking was identified as a central element of a year-round outdoor destination. At the same time, the planned trail development placed considerable demands on land, organization, operations, and acceptance across municipal boundaries and stakeholder groups.
Our contribution
Bikeplan supported the project from preliminary design of the Sonnseitn Trails through development of the operating concept. Alongside the spatial and conceptual design of the trails, the focus was on how infrastructure becomes a functioning product. Bikeplan will also support the project’s communications and marketing implementation going forward.
What was created
The project is evolving from trail construction into an integrated system of offerings and operations.
- Preliminary design for the Sonnseitn Trails as a connected trail system
- A clear approach to the experience and product (loops, target audiences, use)
- A viable operating and organizational concept
- A foundation for implementation, operations, and future development
- Clear guidelines for communications and market launch
Impact
The Sonnseitn Trails demonstrate how mountain biking infrastructure can be developed as part of a comprehensive outdoor strategy. By connecting planning, operations, and communications, the project creates an offering with strong acceptance, a clear identity, and long-term regional impact.
