Project description
Mountain biking development in Ahrweiler district
Starting point
After the 2021 flood disaster, Ahrweiler district faced the challenge of repositioning tourism and regional development. Mountain biking was recognized as having considerable potential to strengthen active tourism, quality of life, and regional economic value. However, clear structures, coordinated offerings, and a shared strategic foundation were missing.
Our contribution
Bikeplan prepared a comprehensive potential assessment to support decisions by policymakers, public administrators, and tourism stakeholders. The focus was on spatial suitability, market and target audience potential, and the involvement of local stakeholders. The analysis combines specialist evidence with a clear focus on feasibility and impact.
What was created
The potential assessment forms the basis for subsequent planning and implementation processes.
- A sound assessment of mountain biking potential across the entire district
- Clear recommendations on suitable development areas and types of offerings
- Strategic guidelines for coordinated, sustainable MTB development
- Specific recommendations for the next planning steps
Impact
The study provides clarity and direction in a complex setting. It strengthens decision-makers’ confidence, establishes a shared technical foundation, and opens up new prospects for sustainable tourism and regional development in Ahrweiler district.
