The Thun region offers scenic, varied mountain biking terrain. What was missing was an overarching plan bringing municipalities, tourism, and riders together behind a shared direction.

Our contribution

Based on a comprehensive analysis, we developed a cycling-specific concept with a master plan and concrete recommendations:

• Analysis: workshops, bilateral discussions, field assessment, spatial analysis, and economic viability analysis
• Synthesis: destination radar and SWOT
• Route concept with an action plan
• Information events for municipalities and stakeholders

Results and impact

The master plan serves as a binding foundation for implementation. The route concept was incorporated into the structure plan binding on public authorities, a mountain biking coordination office was established, and the first infrastructure projects were launched under the “Bike ERT” umbrella. Implementation is funded through the New Regional Policy (NRP).
