Project Description

Black grouse – raising awareness in Zermatt

Raising awareness and channelling without traditional bans

The descent from Schwarzsee to Stafelalp by mountain bike is incredibly attractive. However, the route leads over words through a very sensitive black grouse habitat. In order to reduce habitat fragmentation, bikers and scooter riders should not ride through there if possible. After all, the alternative via the Hobbit Trail is attractive enough.

At the beginning, this canalisation was attempted by means of bans. As we know, this did not work. We then suggested sensitising and informing mountain bikers. And preferably in their jargon.

We like it slow, Dude – Thanks Bro!

It was also important to us that we didn’t just pillory bikers. For this reason, scooter riders and hikers are also informed and sensitised.

In the meantime, the trail is hardly used by mountain bikers and the steering works. Without any bans.
